Frequently Asked Questions
What are the benefits of using a home transition specialist? Can’t I just use a mover or my family?
Of course. However unlike general movers, move managers are specifically trained in home transitions for senior adults.
Move managers can help reduce stress, save time and money and ensure quality results by providing personalized, hands-on support with organizing belongs, coordinating with professionals, and managing the emotional aspects of moving or downsizing. They offer specialized expertise in resources, safety and ethics for working with older adults - easing anxiety for both the senior and their family.
Additionally, for professionals to be considered a Senior Move Manager®, you must be a member of NASMM (the National Association of Senior Move Managers).
How much will this cost?
The cost of our services depends on the extent of assistance desired, size of properties and the amount of time involved. During a free, no-obligation in-home consultation, we can discuss the type of help you are interested in and get a sense of how much work may be involved. We will then provide you with a fee estimate before you make a decision about engaging us to work.
When is the best time to start working with you prior to a move?
Ideally, we’d like to start working together 2-4 months prior to your move. However, timeframes have varied from a week (or less) to more than a year, depending on the situation. For longer timeframes our initial help generally involves guidance with high-level move planning and downsizing strategies, and activity ramps up as the move approaches. In general, as soon as you know where and approximately when you plan to move, let’s talk.
Do I need to use all of your services?
Use only the services you need. Ethically, we feel obliged to tell you everything it takes to get your move accomplished. We will estimate a cost to the tasks we perform. If you prefer to do any of these tasks yourself, that’s fine, you only contract with us for the services you want to use.
What does Aging in Place mean?
Aging in place refers to adults who have decided to remain in their current residence as they age, rather than moving to a continuing care or other type of community. While aging in place can be a great option, providing familiarity and comfort - it needs to be carefully assessed and organized in order to ensure safety and continued independence.
What is a GO Box?
